Fonts for Contents Page
Contents Page - Conventions Analysis
In this genre of magazine, the contents pages all have more
than one picture on and they are either on a slant or have a larger picture
then the rest which could mean that person might have been on the front cover
of the magazine. They all seem to have instruments or singing which refers back
to their tours or performances. The colours are all very basic and plain so it
attracts both genders but also it is the colours that most of the bands are
seen wearing. One of them have a small story on the front about one band, but
none of the others do. This could show that the magazine didn’t follow the
conventions or there is something important the readers need to know. They all
have the basic page numbers of things that are mostly going to interesting and
they also have short titles near the pictures which are around the contents
page to show they have stories on this band and what it is about. They all have
a white background, no picture used so I think it sticks to the colour theme of
the whole magazine.
The pictures in this take up half of the page so it draws your attention to it straight away. Also they have a section on the magazines where things are featured such as quiz's or competitions. None of the pictures are in black and white, they are all in colour and they all seem to have the same colour contrast as the whole page.

Front Page
-Less space at the bottom of the page.
-Three different types of fonts (change some of them).
Feedback From Jamie
Jodee, I really love your front cover. The use of light and shade, the
interplay of the image with the masthead, the coverlines, the choice of image
all tell me that this is a music magazine with a distinctive style and attitude.
Here are some suggestions: reduce the number of fonts that you use on the front
cover (I would argue that only two or three different types of fonts are
necessary); Make it clear how much your magazine costs; reduce the amount of
empty space at the bottom of the page where the article about Elle Thresh is
advertised; devise a strapline to your magazine which makes clear what genre you
are targeting. Also, I would place the website the masthead.
This is my final draft and also the one I would use as my
final piece, I have used the colours that will attract ant gender and I have also
put information that anyone can read, I thought I would put some of the main
festivals that they perform at which will attract anyone of any age and is also
useful information for people. I used the pictures to add suspense and use it
for a cover line ‘Secrets Revealed’ so it makes people want to read on. I
decided to stick to basic colours so it looks modern and older generations
would want to read it and also it doesn’t make it look tacky. I put white into
this so the barcode looks part of the magazine too.

Possible Pictures
This picture could be used on the contents page, because it is the same person who is representing the magazine, but the fact that it doesnt seem a very positive photo and doesn't have any colour in it might represent different things and attract different audiences.
Also the fact the only colours that are used is black and white, and she doesn't have any expression on her face, doesn't show us what she is feeling or gives us any insite to the story she would be in. For the bands audience aswell, it doesnt showyou what she is wearing or in colour, so her ''fans'' wouldnt read it as some might look at that picture to see her fashion.
It's the same with this picture with the colour, and the fact you can't see any emotion in this picture. But you could use this as the contents page, so it looks like she is looking at the story or the pages that are featured. We start to see a little bit of what she is wearing, and also her hair style, which attracts her ''fans''.

This one is a bit different to the other pictures, since she has a prop, but she doesn't show any expression again but the fact the prop is a bottle, could mean there is a story behind it, maybe a drinking problem or friends/family have that problem.
This photo is in colour too, and it is the colour red which stands out alot. The colour red connotes danger, sexuality etc. So that could give us some more idea's of the story/interview with her. As she would be part of a indie band, the clothes she wears in this would be vital, as she is a role model for others.

This is the one i have chosen, that would take up quarter of the contents page, so it is the first picture you see when you turn onto that page. The fact we see emotion in this picture, being excited will make the readers want to read on, as something exciting would be on, and orginally there would be a small heading on the bottom corner of something she is excited about.
She is wearing a leeds fest bracelet, which refers back to the front page of her attending leeds festival in 2013. This could mean she is excited for that and give you some hints of a new album etc. We see more outfit in this aswell so people could take fashion tips from her too,
I have chosen this one to be my final picture that would be on my front cover, as i tihnk the photo gives a a story behind it just from having her hand over he mouth. It could give the impression that she is hiding something, or she is in shock, or maybe she has secrets to reveal, and having coverlines either side of her can help advertise this and get more buyers. I think its best to keep it in colour and maybe change the contrast a bit so the colours stand out more. The red scarf and nails could mean she is in danger or has done something wrong, or that her herself could be in a relationship. The white background can give me chance to change the colours a little bit so they all stand out and make the magazine look attractive, Although i want the magazine to attract both genders.

Mock up using pictures
To improve my second mock up I think I need to be careful of
the colours I use, as in this there is a lot of pink shades which could attract
more women to this magazine then men. Also the colour contrasts between the colours
I have picked do not complement each other well and make the magazine look
tacky. I have stuck to the conventions of a magazine with a selling line etc. I
think this works well as it draws your attention to what is inside a magazine.
Although I have other things in on this cover that stand out more and draw your
attention to the wrong place.
To improve my mock-up of my magazine using pictures from the internet, I think I could off made my fonts more bold and noticeable and have more interesting things on the cover lines and the main cover line story to be better. I stuck to the conventions but I didn’t have a lot of features on like other stories and quiz’s etc. My magazine wouldn’t attract the people who I intended too because it seemed quite dull and the colours do not contrast each other well. Although my picture does represent the picture I am showing because it shows a picture of a main singer out of one of the largest bands that would be featured in this magazine. I also need to add a barcode and make the date more visable.
Mock up of Music Magazine
I want my magazine to feature the bands i have picked to help me with the mock up of the front page and the contents page. i like the colour themes that they have chosen and the way the clothes they are using are matching that too. With the title on the front page, it goes behind the artist and that is how i would like mine. and with the contents page i want it to be really simple and only have a couple of pictures on, i don't want a lot as it will drive the attention away from the main artist. I will have my main artists picture, larger then the others that will be advertised aswell. i will also need to make sure that if i mention a page number on the front of the magazine then it will need to be the same on the contents page.

Name Idea's for the Music Magazine;
ELB
FY
S&B
VLV
Script
Aim
XYX
XYX
I chose these fonts because i thought if they are short and snappy and my target audience would like it better. In the end i chose 'XYX' because i thought the letters really stood out and when you say the letters they role of your tongue better. I didnt want to pick the 'script' as i thought there is a band called the script which would clash and my audience might think it the magazine was only about them. I chose blod fonts to use on my cover so the headlines stand out more and the coverlines are readable.
This is the colour theme that i want to try out and one of them i will use. I am keeping the colour scheme plain and simple but also so it looks attractive and lively. i didn't want bright colours since the target audience that i am aiming at will not look at that to read. I think out of just looking at these i will most probably use the middle colours since i think it doesn't look to bright but then it doesn't look to simple and boring.
This is what i am using for the title of my magazine, I wanted it to be bold and really stand out. My first idea of a title was to be short and snappy. My title isn't initials for anything, it mainly like that because with the font it looks good. I am keeping it black because the colour theme that i am using is other colours and i feel it will stand out better then and people will recognise it more. I want to learn how to put the title behind the artists head slightly so its still clear enough to see but then the artist on the front page is still the most important thing and stands out the most.
The Social Grade
The social grade that I am aiming my magazine at, it between
B, C1,C2, D. As I think the bands that I want featuring in my magazine have
been out for a longer amount of time then people who might be in the pop
industry or indie. Because of the bands being older, the music that they have
out previously over a few years, they people in these social grades might off
listened to it when they were younger or were a big fan of them. For example, Coldplay
have been out for years and all types of ages like them, which shows that older
people remember them from when they were younger and maybe have their children listen
to them which gives them more target audience, I would also look at Coldplay to
be middle class themselves which maybe suggests why people who are middle class
or under listen to them.
Audience
Research
Why should people read my magazine?
I think people should read my magazine because it is for a people of different ages and also the the groups that are in this magazine are for people who like different genres of music even though it is based on rock alternative. The colours i am using will also attract different people, and depending on who is on the front will attract different people too.
